To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the theatrical release of the first installment of Peter Jackson's trilogy, the Monnaie de Paris will present in 2026 a collection of precious gold and silver coins dedicated to the legendary saga of The Lord of the Rings.
From the Shire to Mordor, the perilous epic of the Fellowship of the Ring is now engraved in metal, celebrating a mythical saga that has become a true pillar of the fantasy genre.
Shattered by time and the Ring, Gollum wanders the edges of the world, torn between what he once was and what he has become. Once a Hobbit, he now bears the marks of an obsession that has slowly consumed him, erasing almost every trace of innocence.
Both guide and threat, victim and servant of the Ring, he embodies the fragility of humankind in the face of the corrupting power of Mordor. His journey reminds us that the deepest shadows often arise from broken relationships and that no one is ever truly lost as long as a glimmer of hope remains. A splash of gold ink embellishes the scene.
The reverse of this coin shows the face value surrounded by two branches, one oak and the other laurel, reminiscent of the euro symbol. The entire reverse design is framed by the inscription "République Française" and a series of lines representing the profile of France.
