To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the theatrical release of the first installment of Peter Jackson's trilogy, the Monnaie de Paris will present in 2026 a collection of precious gold and silver coins dedicated to the legendary saga of The Lord of the Rings. From the Shire to Mordor, the perilous epic of the Fellowship of the Ring is now engraved in metal, celebrating a mythical saga that has become a true pillar of the fantasy genre.
In the heart of Moria, the Fellowship's escape is abruptly interrupted on the bridge of Khazad-dûm. Gandalf steps forward alone, placing himself between his companions and a shadow from ancient times. Facing the Balrog, fire and darkness collide in a suspended moment, where time seems to hold its breath.
"You shall not pass!"
This gesture marks a turning point. Through his sacrifice, Gandalf offers the Fellowship the chance to continue their journey, even at the cost of his own fall into the abyss. A splash of colored inks enriches the scene.
The reverse of this coin shows the face value surrounded by two branches, one oak and the other laurel, recalling the euro symbol. The entire reverse design is framed by the inscription "République Française" and a series of lines representing the outline of France.
